Cracking the exam will be the first step to getting admission to the Ph.D/ Research Programme through the council’s support. There are currently seven centres where the ICMR JRF fellowship tests are conducted once a year. These seven centres are- Chandigarh, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Guwahati .
A total of 150 Fellowships are awarded in this exam. However, the 120 Fellowships would be awarded and allowed to work in the field of biomedical sciences with emphasis on Life Sciences (such as zoology, human biology, physiology, molecular biology, Pharmacology, microbiology, genetics, biotechnology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, biophysics, immunology, botany, veterinary sciences, bioinformatics Environment Science, etc).
ICMR JRF Fellowship Amount
The existing value of the ICMR fellowship is at present Rs. 31000/- (Rupees Twenty Five thousand only) per month and an annual contingency grant up to Rs. 20,000/- per annum.
The candidates who will be selected for the JRF ICMR programme will get the chance to enlist themselves for the Ph.D. programme of any UGC/MCI registered University. One thing you must understand is that the JRF programme has no connection with the Ph.D. programme, this is the key for the candidates to qualify to receive the award of the ICMR JRF fellowship.
Age Limit
The maximum age to apply for the ICMR JRF eligibility test is 28 years. However, there is an upper age limit relaxable up to 5 years for those who belong to SC/ST, physically handicapped (PH) and female candidate categories. Similarly, for the OBC category, there is an age limit relaxation of up to 3 years.
Qualification:
If you want to appear in the ICMR JRF test, you must meet certain criteria. In case you are a General/OBC candidate, you should have M.Sc./M.A. or equivalent degree with a minimum 55% mark. And, if you are an SC/ST & physically handicapped candidate, you should obtain at least 50% for the subjects mentioned under the head method of selection.
Scheme Of ICMR JRF Test
ICMR JRF is a 2-hour duration exam that consists of 2 Sections-
Aptitude Section-50 questions
- Scientific Phenomenon
- General knowledge(in Science)
- Common statistics.
All these questions of this section carry 1 mark and are compulsory to answer.
- Subject-Specific Section- Life Sciences
- Social Science
The candidate may attempt questions from any of these two areas. Each area of the subject-specific section has 100 questions and the candidate will be asked to attempt any 75 questions in the selected area. However, as a candidate, you are obliged to indicate the option for Section B or C in your application form too.
General and OBC category-based candidates need to secure an aggregate of 55 % marks obtained in both the A and B/C sections. SC/ST and physically handicapped candidates are required to score at least 50% in both sections.
